5 foot 12 girl

i'm melissa, the 5 foot 12 author of this blog...
a first-grade teacher teacher turned stay @ home mom to two sweet little girls, a wife to a great (5 foot 20) guy, and a DIY-project-kind-of-girl.
so...the blog name: five foot twelve creations. well, over the years i have been asked about my height thousands of times. i am actually six feet tall {plus a little more}...but i love to tell people i am 5 foot 12.
i'm not sure why to be honest, i just really like the way it sounds.
it has become a little joke among my family & friends, and i always beg the guy at the DMV to put 5'12" on my license {no luck so far}.
now, i realize not many people sympathize with being "too tall"...and as an adult i have come to mostly appreciate my height. but it has been a huge source of insecurity for me over the years. take middle school for example, i remember trying to plan activities with my friends that did not involve standing up {that should explain to my middle school friends why i always wanted to go to the movies} even today when i am standing next to my more petite-&-"average-sized" friends, i can't help but think i must look like a giant. {i did get called the jolly green giant in 5th grade!} and super-cute high heels, well, they're usually out of the question (more b/c i can't walk in them though). the hubs loves that i'm tall and he himself is 6'8" (5'20" ;)...so that has given me the opportunity to feel "short" in my life. it is no big secret that our daughters are going to be tall, maybe even taller than me someday. i want to help them have the confidence to appreciate, embrace, and love their height, even in those middle school years.

thanks for stopping by!
